Common Google Places Optimization Misconceptions

February 15, 2013 by Clarence Divas

Developing a good Google Places Optimization campaign will help you draw more traffic to your website. You should read this article to learn more about common Google Places Optimization misconceptions and make sure you are spending your time and resources on efficient methods.

Google Places Optimization and Top Misconceptions about SEO

Google Places OptimizationPlacing a large number keywords on your site will not cause your site to rank higher in search results for these keywords. However, placing a few keywords in strategic places will make a difference. The search engine spiders who analyze your website will not look for strong keywords in the text of your articles. The keywords used in your title tags, alt tags, meta tags, meta description and URLs will be noticed. You should also use strong keywords in the anchor text of your links to give search engine spiders an indication of the content they will find by following your links.

An XML map will not help search engine spiders navigate your website and index more pages. An XML map is simply a reflection of the organization of your website, and it will not be efficient if your site is not well-organized. You need to help search engine spiders find the totality of your pages by connecting them efficiently thanks to site-wide links and unique links. You should create a detailed menu for your most important links, an archive for your old articles and add unique links to more similar web pages within your content.

Having thousands of back-links will not help you get more traffic. You will draw more visitors if you get back-links where they will be noticed by people who are likely to be interested in your content. You should focus on quality rather than quantity when building your back-links. Contact webmasters or bloggers who have a similar audience and exchange back-links. Get your articles published on article directories or online publications your target audience reads. You should use a visitor counter to get a better idea of where your traffic comes from so you can work on building more similar back-links.

Google Places Optimization is not about tricking search engines. Your site will actually be banned from search listings if search engines notice you are using unethical methods. You should not look for ways to add more keywords than necessary to your pages or trick visitors into clicking on a link that does not take them to the content you mentioned. You should make producing quality content for your audience your absolute priority and optimize this content properly to help search engine spiders index it. Keep in mind that an excellent Google Places Optimization campaign will not help you if you cannot convince visitors to purchase your products once they have found your website, which is why you should focus on developing quality content.

You should be able to develop an efficient Google Places Optimization campaign now that you know more on this topic. Do more research on Google Places Optimization and stay up to date with new techniques since search engines are often making changes to the algorithms they use to index websites.
